Scena Slate Privacy Policy

• No sign-up or sign-in. The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
• Scripts, recordings and shoot records stay on your devices. We have no way to read them.
• Devices connect directly over your local network, never through our servers or any third-party server.
• The microphone is used only when you start recording or turn on speech follow.

To work, the app stores the following on the device you use:

• Scripts you type, paste or import, and their revision history.
• Audio recorded during a shoot, slate records (scene, shot, take and clap times) and shoot history.
• The name you give the device, your list of paired devices, and the cryptographic credentials used for pairing. Pairing credentials are kept in the system keychain on this device only and are not synced through iCloud.
• Interface preferences such as text size, scroll speed and mirroring.

None of this is uploaded to us. If you use iCloud or computer backups, Apple may include app data in your device backup according to your backup settings; Apple’s privacy policy applies to those backups.

Scena Slate uses your local network so the prompter, slate and remote in the same shoot can connect. On iPhone and iPad, the app announces itself on the same Wi-Fi network only while one of these tools is open or when you choose to let nearby devices join; the Mac app waits for connections as the shoot workstation while it is open. The announcement contains only:

• A random device identifier created by the app (not a serial number or advertising identifier).
• The shoot name (up to 40 characters), the device type, the tool currently open, and whether pairing is open.

Other devices on the same network can see this information. If the shoot name contains something you do not want to share, rename the shoot before you start.

Pairing requires both devices to show the same 4-digit number and your approval. After pairing, scripts, control commands and recordings are sent directly between your devices over an encrypted connection.

The app asks for the microphone only when you start recording, start a shoot with audio capture, or turn on speech follow. Recorded audio is saved on the device that recorded it and, when the shoot ends, sent to the device that collects the shoot’s media.

Speech follow uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition to turn the speaker’s voice into text so the prompter scrolls with the script. Neither the audio nor the recognised text is sent to our servers. The first time you use it, the system may download a language model from Apple.

The app does not include any third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools.

The app is distributed through the Apple App Store. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash and performance reports. These reports do not contain your scripts or recordings.

This website does not use analytics or tracking tools and sets no cookies.

• Scripts can be deleted from the script library.
• Paired devices can be removed under Paired Devices.
• Recordings and shoot records cannot yet be deleted one by one in the app. Deleting the app removes all of its data from that device, including recordings, shoot records and pairing credentials.

Scena Slate is a tool for video production and filming. It is not designed for children and does not collect personal data from anyone.

If we add features that rely on an online service, such as cloud sync or AI, we will update this policy first and explain the feature and ask for your consent in the app before you use it. The date at the top of this page changes whenever the policy is updated.
